With the Ford Coolant you always want to see No Nitrites present. Since almost ALL have them and common test strips are used to make sure you have enough nitrites in your coolant. Almost ANY coolant test strip will show the Nitrites. It's a simple test to see if the coolant you added had Nitrites. If I had to guess, I would think that Dex-Cool is the most compatible. Every Motorcraft coolant is purpose-built and therefore owners must consult their manuals before using any of the products.I don't know that ANY of them are compatible with the coolant that Ford uses in the 6.7L engine. Ford advises customers to observe the protection interval offered by the original product that their system was running on. It is worth noting that switching over from any of the old coolants to the Yellow P-OAT coolant does not guarantee an improvement in the protection period. The protection interval of the new Yellow P-OAT coolant is rated at 10 years or 200,000 miles. The new Yellow coolant does react with the calcium and magnesium present in tap water so make sure to use distilled water with it. The P-OAT coolant can also be used after a drain but a complete flush will offer the best results. It is recommended that customers use the new P-OAT coolant for motors that have an internal water pump like the 3.5-liter Cyclone engine. Customers running the Orange coolant and even the Specialty Green coolant can top off their systems with the new Yellow P-OAT coolant. Transitioning from the Orange to the new Yellow coolant is pretty straight forward because the new product is backward compatible. Motorcraft Yellow Coolant Backwards Compatibility The new product was first introduced in 2018 and was designed to offer better performance than its predecessor, especially in extremely cold temperatures. The all-new Yellow P-OAT coolant is similar to the Specialty Green P-OAT coolant Ford introduced in some of its models in 2009. The coolant was offered with a 5-year/100,000 miles protection interval but the product was plagued by fallout and protection issues which the company addressed in the latest phosphate-based Yellow coolant. Motorcraft’s Orange Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolant did not have any Phosphates or Silicates and offered better heat transfer. The blue oval brand has been using its Orange OAT coolant since 2011 but it has now been completely cut out of circulation. The Green P-OAT coolant was Ford’s first Phosphate-based coolant but it wasn’t the most durable Motorcraft product and would degrade quite rapidly when exposed to sunlight. Motorcraft Specialty Green - 2009 to 2010īack in 2009, Ford’s partnership with Japanese car manufacturer Mazda was still going strong and the company used its Specialty Green P-OAT coolant in several models that the two carmakers co-developed. The Gold H-OAT coolant was a versatile product as it was completely compatible with cast iron engines that ran on the old Green inorganic coolant. This product was designed to offer better protection for the new aluminum blocks and operate under higher pressures. When Ford’s cast iron blocks were replaced by lighter aluminum units that operated at higher temperatures, the inferior heat transfer capabilities of the Green Silicate coolant rendered this product obsolete.įord replaced the Green coolant with Motorcraft’s Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (H-OAT) Gold Coolant which was used in most models until 2011.
